Yesterday, Symantec and Yahoo declared their partnership at the security of Internet services for users across the globe. These two top Internet assets is releasing their "Norton Internet Security" that is especially created to protect us, (Internet lurkers), from various threats such as spam, spyware, hackers, viruses, worms, and Trojan horses that usually come from email attachments. This program is an all-around software that provides Norton Personal Firewall as well as Norton AntiVirus.

Their primary vision is the protection of online consumers globally by providing security that is very important to all of us. Just imagine that this firewall software is like a big time security guard against spam, hackers, and the like. And, when I say big time I mean BIG TIME as in like Keanu Reeves in the Matrix. For instance, this Trojan horse is merrily galloping towards your internet page. If you don't have Norton Personal Firewall, it would probably merrily destroy your computer. Otherwise, it could play dead.

This is what we should call the on the go computer security. Bluefire, a developer of firewall solutions and other security products announced that it will be providing the security software for the mobile phone Motorola Q. The company creates security tools exclusively for wireless gadgets like personal digital assistants, mobile phones, smartphones, and Pocket PCs. Security tools for mobile devices are extremely important since the gadgets are currently becoming the target of numerous computer abusers.

Moto Q, the newest product of the Motorola company runs on the Microsoft Mobile Smartphone software which features unparalleled mobile performance. It is currently considered as the most versatile handheld device because it can handle multiple tasks at a fast-pace strategy. This gadget is like an average computer machine with all the complete peripherals installed, shrunk into pocket-size. With the inclusion of the Bluefire security, the mobile company is expecting more consumer support.

Q is also considered as the main rival of Blackberry's line of personal digital assistants. Personally, I think that Q will be more appealing to consumers now that it's been equipped with an industry-trusted security solution. Will the firewall cause Q to increase its price? Perhaps, they will be increasing the gadgets price to pay for the security tool. But I think that's okay, as long as users and their gadgets are safe.

Microsoft fans will be very delighted to hear that the Windows Vista, which is scheduled for release on January 2007, will be packaged with a highly usable firewall security system. After years of waiting, computer users from the business aspect will get to experience an operating system that is highly protected against hackers, virus writers, and spyware authors. The testing of the new firewall tool has been successful and the company is planning to put the same feature for their home products.

This firewall product will be featuring two filters that will help hinder outside traffic from trespassing into the system and stop inner applications from connecting to other PCs outside the network. Microsoft XP doesn't have this double twin feature before because it can only protect itself from outside programs. I think that this idea is not so innovative because most of the firewalls available in the market today are equipped with this dual-protection thing.

The company's endeavor of putting a double purpose firewall for corporate-focused OS will also be integrated to home-focused OS soon. The software giant would want to offer consumers a more flexible and secured platform. Microsoft is making sure that the installation of firewalls will not prevent the compatibility of applications to the OS. There's no beating around the bush here, guys. I can feel that after so many delays of releasing the product, the slated 2007 launch date will be for real this time.

The World Wild Web is not only fountain of information, it is also a wide hunting ground. It's a big world where spammers, spyware authors, virus writers, and hackers lurk around to attack unsuspecting preys or simply illiterate users. Honestly, perusing the web is not as safe as it was before. Actually, the existence of new threats makes Internet surfing more dangerous than bungee- jumping. We are in the grip of computer security mania.

Security tools are cropping in and out just like poisonous mushrooms during rainy season, and corrupt politicians during election. Before you eat the bait that the device makers are offering, think first. The taste of insecurity is not at all unsavory. Recently, a news article said that Diadem, the super firewall has been created in Germany. A firewall security system that will end all our worries about computer monsters.
Tuesday, April 24. 2007
Makers of the latest security product said that it will stop all computer threats even in their zero-day attacks. It will block malicious information from penetrating our systems and hard drives. Most new products have had these claims before. But they haven't delivered the security that they've promised. I'm jaded and skeptical about new products claiming that they're super. I'll eat venomous mushrooms if one of these claims were true.

The Macquarie University in Sidney, Australia ditched their outer firewall to shield their systems against shithead intruders. This news sounds a bit weird. Well, computer freaks always warned us guys about configuring both an internal and external firewall security system to make sure that all our machines our safe. But this university did something that freaks consider as no-no for computer protection. Detaching your firewall is a risky game. It's like inviting a maelstrom of computer abusers to have a party over your hard drive. "Eight-thirty then? Are the virus writers coming or only the hackers? Be sure to load up on the drinks!
Friday, April 20. 2007
Anyway, back to the news, the university dumped their external firewalls because it makes their PCs more vulnerable to diseases. But they've placed a more competent firewall in the network itself to provide centralized security. As we all know, the university is considered as the world's premier research brainery, so it is very important for the administrators there to secure their patents and research findings. I think I just discovered a good trick to keep those nasty bugs and worms away from our PCs. Just like what the university did, if you employ a lot of computers, put a firewall directly at the heart of the network so you'll get centralized protection.

I found myself sitting in our sofa the other night watching the late-night news while my wife, Dolly, read some magazines. My wife cares about today's current events as much as she cares for the termites in the kitchen. Last night's news was about experts' findings about China's great firewall. "Computer wizards from Cambridge said that they've managed to break the code of the firewalls used by the Chinese government..." announced the reporter seriously. My wife gave me a puzzled look. "Is that about their historical wall?"
"It's not the long wall," I said. "It's about firewall security systems."
"They used computers for their walls?"
I cast her a threatening look.
My wife's gray matter processes computer terms in the same way it processes metallurgical engineering and paid political advertisements. Going back to the news, it said that experts from Britain was able to hack the firewalls used by the Chinese government to limit access of some unwanted websites. The said firewall is a product of Cisco company. Based on the tests conducted by the British experts, the system is not at all efficient in repelling unwanted traffic in the web. Experts already warned Chinese officials that a professional hacker, who knows a thing or two about computers, can easily gain access to the country's files.

I was visiting a computer store yesterday which sells hardware and software products for security and office applications, computer machines, accessories and peripherals. The woman who is assisting some customers suddenly went near me and ask what I'm looking for with the most arrogant smile that she can muster. I don't know if I'm going to laugh or answer her directly because I was dumbstruck with the way she speaks with her customers.
When I said I was just looking around in a serious tone, she looked at me rather menacingly from my feet to my head and took flight to the next approaching customer muttering words like, "guys with no penny". Stifling a laugh, I was just thinking if this as the newest trend amongst computer centers today; pretended great customer service just to gain profit and sell more products. I hope I won't sound very judgmental here, but as a customer it'll be easy to decipher if the girl in uniform is purely willing to assist us or just want to mess with our time. And you'll believe me if you went to that store and meet the same lady that I met whose personality is more like a caramel syrup turned into poison.
Anyway, I'm not writing again nor waste my time on some stupid people born on earth to make other's life stupider as well. Going back to the shop and ignoring the sales lady, I asked the manager if they have the PV Viper 3.1, which is a firewall security software that my friend told me to use. The best thing about this software is that it hinders malicious traffic from entering your system effectively than some of its contemporaries, yet it's price is so cheap. The kind manager gave me what I want, and asked if I can fill up a form on the way they handle customer concerns, and out of my good heart I declined, since I also don't want the arrogant lady to lose her job and I guess this blog is enough to warn nasty sales representatives about their wicked deeds.

We all know that despite the large number of its users and its popularity across the globe, Microsoft Windows still remains to be the most vulnerable to malicious software and viruses as compared to other available operating systems today. With people, who intentionally want to wreak havoc in the world of cyberspace, continuously trying to create new software that would allow them to hack into one's operating system, it is important that we are always updated about the recent developments in computer firewall security and anti-virus software. It is also a must that we are up-to-date with the latest versions, patches, and updates.
While there may be a lot of people creating malicious software, there are also people who are continuously trying to stop them. These people always come up with new anti-virus codes to update your system. AVG is one of the leading providers of anti-virus software. Incidentally, it has already come up with the latest cure for the recent MS WORD Security Exploit. This virus disguises itself as an email attachment to a Word document and it can seriously damage your system. Specifically, the virus named Exploit Oledata, infects Microsoft Word 2003 and the XP versions. It is recommended that users take caution in opening unknown file types and continuously update their virus signature to avoid potential damages to their system.

I think the threat of being attacked digitally is increasing that's why computer companies are developing more security products not only for PCs but even for mobile gadgets. For instance, McAfee, Inc. recently proclaimed the handiness of its mobile security systems for various mobile gadgets. The VirusScan and the Firewall mobile version aim to protect users of portable devices like personal digital assistants from serious attacks of hackers, viruses, malware, spyware, and adware by checking outbound and inbound traffic against malicious files. The mobile security gives cutting edge detection, scanning and clearing of the mobile information to stop degradation of the machines due to assaults of viruses, bugs and worms. Moreover, it also aims to give absolute protection from serious threats coming from the constant use of the Internet, e-mail, IM or instant messaging and the sending and receiving of files from SMS, MMS, and Bluetooth entry points.
I think this very important since we already have a wide variety of mobile gizmo available in the market which I guess is as vulnerable as ordinary computer machines. And because of its growth in terms of sales, profit-oriented cyber criminals like hackers and identity thefts are looking at it as a precious battle ground to proliferate distress. I just hope that this mobile security thing is really effective since I know the company who made it has a good reputation in the computer business.

Have you watched Land of the Dead or House of the Dead? Scary isn't it? But what if your PC is morphing into a living nightmare? Latest technology reports said that zombie personal computers are culprits of producing above eighty percent of universal spam. These PCs are those tainted by malicious systems. Evil spammers and hackers are using them to propel junk e-mails. Worms such as Sobig and Bagel containing malware leads an infected computer to a site to download a Trojan horse that will mercilessly destroy a PCs antivirus software, giving hackers an open gate to control your PC without your knowledge. Zombie PCs can be computers used for business, schools or by personal users.
To decrease the risk of your computer from turning into the next star of the future sequel of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" music video, experts advise every user to install protective firewall security systemthat comes with antivirus and antispyware softwares. They also added that users should try to instigate firewalls by themselves to guarantee that security applications are still functioning. The reason for this is that automatic firewalls are susceptible from attacks of Trojan horses.
How can you determine if your PCs a zombie? Old PCs may look like a zombie, literally, but lethargic connection to broadband, impassive keyboard and mouse and unwarranted activity of the hard drive are some of the indicators. Check some websites for tips about de-zombying PCs.

If a hacker has given you a terrible headache, now is the time to give it back to that wicked computer enemy. Install a firewall in your computer. A firewall is a software or hardware solution to give security to your computer from the threat of hackers. It blocks unwanted data entering into the computer via Internet. It is usually placed between the computer network and Internet. A complete and proper configuration of firewall is necessary to achieve its full function.
You can either buy or download firewall software from the Internet. McAfee is one of the software vendors that provide security tools for users. McAfee has a Personal Firewall Plus to protect the computer from the hands of hackers. It monitors internet traffic, reduces suspicions in activities of computer, readily integrates with McAfee VirusScan, protects all important data, and automatically updates to secure the computer from new digital threats.
These and other benefits are packed in this software. You can visit the McAfee's site to get more information about the product. Remember, spending money for firewall is tantamount to protecting your valuable properties.

According to experts, the Microsoft Windows OneCare security bundle default setting is a bad idea. By default, the setting of this security software allows applications that has digital signature that is connected to the Internet, like the Java Virtual Machine. Mark Curphey, vice president at vulnerability management specialist Foundstone, said that all firewall protection devices should have all its doors closed, denying all application. The hole in the system was discovered by Curphey when he ran a software on his wife’s computer installed with the OneCare program. He added that this will just invite hackers and other internet goons to exploit the problem.
OneCare responded in their blog confirming that the program does allow the passage of signed applications and Java Virtual Machine without alerting the users. According to Microsoft, it is unlikely that a malware will be signed and if ever it does, its author could be traced. Disallowing Java would only result to the disablement of many important applications and asking permission to run the program would only confuse the user. Microsoft assured that if ever a malignant program does land on the computer, OneCare’s antivirus component should be able to catch it.

Firewalls are important for security reasons. Whether you utilize the internet for work, business, or leisure, you need to install firewall to your PC. Your files are vulnerable to hacking and virus. If you use a high speed internet access, then the risk of document hacking or data corruption is even higher.
Data loss or theft can have serious effects to your business. That's why you need firewall to limit or control the accessibility of your network. Protect your business by availing a powerful security system.
