Before, surfing the net is like having a relaxing good night stroll in the tropical islands of Tanzania. But now, that great sensation is altered because heading towards the cyberspace is more like being trapped in a snake pit with giant anaconda lurking behind you. I'm sorry for the exaggeration but I can't find the exact words to describe how unsafe it is to use the computer nowadays.
I just recently realized after reading my previous blog entries that I've written about almost any new firewall product in town. But the saddening truth is that although we have these things around, we have still doubts due to the looming threat of the attack of hackers. Although the government and most of the concerned groups I learned are doing everything that they can to prevent more blitz from ruining the economic and marketing industry. Shrugging our shoulders would not repel a hacker from invading our private data. Even your almost Tom Cruise smile would not shy away viruses from infesting your network.
Proper configuration of a firewall is important for the protection of you entire computer machine, but it's proper to say that it is not the end for computer safety. Peer to peer sharing, which is a common practice today is too good to be true because it also results to sharing a multitude of malicious files with other computers. So it would be better to check first what you want to broadcast in the network before it becomes your next bad headache. Also, like what most experts remind users, don't open an attachment unless you know that it is really meant for you because it could be a spyware or malware disguising as free stunning screensavers.

In a world revolving around computers, the safety of the network and the entire system is necessary. The malevolent attacks of hackers, malware, adware, spyware and other viruses are becoming a growing threat to either personal or business users. Therefore, security as service is today's hottest trend.
There are firewall security products that exhort users about etiquette rather than endeavor to connect with the Internet or network. They gave signals that a program is trying to configure itself to heave at start-up. Some give alerts that a program which you are not familiar with is trying to propel Windows connotes that a noxious scheme is seeking to destroy your firewall. In this situation, you have the opportunity to occlude the access. But if you're really not sure with it, you can allow your firewall to impede the program's action then check the level in your firewall's configuration dialog.
When your firewall inquires if you'll permit a program enter your system, try to rationalize for a minute. Its request can be important or valid or it might be warning you about a possible virus attack. Myriad of highly defined firewalls will take the proper move without asking you. They have databases that can determine good and bad programs in the traffic. But the good ones are those who ask for your authorization.

Firewall has become one of important computer devices today. Firewall protects. It blocks unsolicited messages, which are not adhering to the set policies of the network administrator. Firewall, whether software or hardware, keeps computer and files secured from the threats of hackers. Like an anti-virus software, firewall should also be installed in computer to guard the network system against digital robbers.
But firewall cannot perform efficiently if it is wrongly configured. The security of the network is among the great responsibilities of a network administrator. No matter how large is the size of the network, it is the job of the network administrator, or sometimes the network engineer, to find ways to protect and keep secured the network system.
As a network administrator, it is his duty to know how to configure and maintain the network firewall. Firewalls use impenetrable terminologies and the network administrator must comprehend exactly how they work. If configured erroneously, there is a possibility to allow external users (as hackers) to access confidential data in the system. And worst, inaccurate configured firewall can prevent local intranet users to send and respond to external email messages.

Today, there are a lot of people who are exposed to the Internet. Most businesses are depending much on the presence of it. Thus, they are not only protecting their office building from a robber, but also they protect their property from sabotage and terrorism. One of the most protected areas in the office is the network system.
Computer network is vital in the office system. The network administrator is responsible in keeping the network in good working system -- fast internet connection and safe from digital intruders or the hackers. One of the best protections that network administrators apply is the installation of a firewall software or firewall hardware. As the name suggests, firewall protects both the computer network and files from the danger of computer virus, Trojans, SPAM, etc.
The network administrator or the network engineer configures the firewall. Hence, if the configuration is poor, there is a big chance that the network system is not stable. It can be a good opportunity for the hackers to attack the system and create destructions to the system. The Cisco, Checkpoint and Symantec are some reliable firewall merchants to check-out. Internet provides free firewall, too.

The Information Age has ushered in a new form of national security threat which is almost tantamount, in terms of potential destructions, to the nuclear threat of the Cold War Era. The risk of real attack is much higher, considering that there is no particular single source of this threat.
Unlike in the Cold War Era, digital threat can come from anywhere even from within US territory. The main danger associated with computer networks is digital terrorism which could cause economic meltdown. Hence, an arms race between computer servers and digital terrorists is at hand. The first line of defense is firewall configuration.

Generally, firewalls are software and hardware that protect a computer in a network from unauthorized access and viruses. Configuring firewalls may depend upon the level of security policy a user may need. More vital in configuring is the compatibility of the computer system to the firewall.
Those who are using broadband Internet connection, they may already be benefiting form firewall protection. Routers of broadband connection can be configured as filters thereby acting as firewalls. Firewall configuration may involve a set of systems that include routers, proxy servers, host computers, gateways, and network with software.

Firewalls are special hardware and software designed to protect computers in a network from unauthorized access and from viruses. Firewalls screen and block incoming data by seeping through its codes. Firewalls are like the immune system that can recognize threats and can act accordingly. However, firewalls should be configured to suit different computer network systems and security policies needed by the user. For instance, an intranet of a corporation have different firewall configuration compared to a home computer network system.

Firewall hardware and firewall software work together in protecting a network of computers. Without the hardware, firewall software cannot function properly. Depending on the preferred security policy or accessibility, firewall configuration for both hardware and software is a complex task. Firewall hardware such as the GNAT box firewall developed by Global Technology, Inc. and the Cisco firewall hardware require complex installation and configuration depending on the type of the computer network. In general, firewall hardware, like firewall software serves the same function of computer security.
